MALIBU, Calif. — In the first game, the #4 Pepperdine men's water polo team jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead. The Waves used this momentum and never looked back as they defeated Air Force 16-11 in a West Coast Conference matchup at Raleigh Runnels Memorial Pool.
Then against Cal Lutheran, Pepperdine blanked the Kingsmen in the first quarter and took a 7-0 lead into the second period. The Waves cruised to a 17-6 win in the afternoon as they won their eighth-straight game.
BIG WAVES
- Graduate driver Ryan Brosnan (Newport Beach, Calif./Newport Harbor HS/UC Santa Barbara) had three goals and two assists in the first game against Air Force.
- Sophomore attacker Adam Csapo (Budapest, Hungary/BME International Secondary School) tallied a hat-trick, one assist and two steals in the first game of the day.
- Sophomore attacker Sandor Gal (Budapest, Hungary/Leovey Klara Gimnazium) posted three goals and two assists on the day.
- Graduate utility Kaden Kaneko (Huntington Beach, Calif./Mater Dei HS) had a hat-trick and an assist in the second game against Cal Lutheran.
GAME #1 RECAP
Pepperdine scored the game's first four goals to take a 4-0 lead as four different Waves found the back of the net early. Both teams traded goals at the end of the period and Pepperdine was able to take a 5-2 lead into the second quarter.
Curtis Jarvis (Huntington Beach, Calif./Huntington Beach HS) opened up the scoring in the second quarter to give the Waves a four-goal advantage, 6-2. The Falcons countered with a goal, but three straight goals by Brosnan,
Christian Hosea (San Clemente, Calif./San Clemente HS) and
Travis Reynolds (Rolling Hills Estates, Calif./Loyola HS) increased Pepperdine's lead to six, 9-3. Air Force rallied at the end of the quarter and the Waves took a 10-5 advantage into the break.
Brosnan and Csapo scored back-to-back goals to start the second half to increase Pepperdine's lead, 12-5. A slower paced third period that saw a goal with one second left in the quarter by
Dane Howell (Huntington Beach, Calif./Edison HS/Orange Coast College) ended with the Waves taking a 13-7 lead into the fourth quarter.
The Falcons scored the first three goals of the final period, but back-to-back goals from Jarvis and Csapo sealed the game for the Waves. Pepperdine improved to 3-0 in West Coast Conference play with the 16-11 win over Air Force.
Pepperdine was led by Brosnan and Csapo who each had a hat-trick in the game, and a total of nine Waves scored in the contest.

GAME #2 RECAP
Pepperdine overwhelmed Cal Lutheran in the first quarter as seven different Waves scored in the period.
Zach Cwiertnia (Villa Park, Calif./Santa Margarita Catholic HS) blanked the Kingsmen in the first quarter and the Waves took a 7-0 lead into the second period.
Cal Lutheran scored the first goal of the second quarter, but back-to-back goals by Gal increased Pepperdine's advantage to eight, 9-1. Both teams traded goals to end the half and the Waves took an 11-3 lead into the break.
Both Kaneko brothers found the back of the net in the third period as Pepperdine continued to look solid against Cal Lutheran.
Chase Wilson (New York, N.Y./Greenwich HS) also scored a goal of his own in the quarter, and the Waves took a 14-5 lead into the fourth quarter.
Kaden Kaneko scored two more goals in the fourth quarter to give him a hat-trick in the contest as the Waves cruised to a 17-6 victory against the Kingsmen.
Gal and
Kaden Kaneko led the way for Pepperdine with three goals each, and a total of 11 Waves scored in the game.
