WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. – The Pepperdine men's golf team had the best round of any team on Tuesday, moving up three spots to currently sit in third after finishing even in the second round of the Southwestern Invitational.
The Waves have a two-day total of 2-over 578 (290-288). After beginning the day tied with Washington, Pepperdine now leads the Huskies by seven, Georgia by six and Arizona State by one. The squad is one stroke shy of Oregon (577) and 18-away from the current tournament-leader Texas (560).
PLAYER SCORES
- Graduate Derek Hitchner (Minneapolis, Minn./The Blake School) continued to lead the Waves, finishing 3-under 141, which is good for ninth. He posted six birdies in round two and leads the tournament in par 4 scoring (3.85) alongside two of his competitors from Washington and San Jose State.
- Graduate Sam Choi (Anaheim, Calif./New Mexico) finished 1-over 145, finishing with four birdies. He moved up 17 spots and heads into the third round in 16th.
- Senior William Mouw (Chino, Calif./Ontario Christian HS) and graduate Luke Gifford (Boca Raton, Fla./South Florida) are one-behind Choi in 17th after two rounds, having posted 2-over 146. Each of them have hit for par on 24 holes throughout the tournament thus far, while Gifford birdied thrice and Mouw birdied twice in round two.
- Sophomore Ian Maspat (San Diego, Calif./Scripps Ranch HS) will enter the final round tied-31st after hitting 6-over 150 after two rounds. He birdied three times in round two.
UP NEXT
The third and final round will be played tomorrow. Pepperdine will pair up with #20 Texas, #26 Oregon and #4 Arizona State, teeing off at 10:20 a.m. at the first tee.
