MALIBU, California – The Pepperdine men's tennis team saw four players ranked in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division I preseason rankings that were announced on Tuesday.
Daniel De Jonge (#15),
Tim Zeitvogel (#45) and
Pietro Fellin (#53) were recognized in singles, while De Jonge and
Linus Carlsson Halldin (#59) made the cut in doubles.
Daniel De Jonge (Vlissingen, Netherlands), a graduate student, slots 104 spots higher than last preseason after beginning the fall of 2021 ranked #119. De Jonge had a successful senior season, earning All-WCC first team honors in both singles and doubles. The ITA Southwest Region Most Improved Senior, De Jonge went 25-10 in overall singles matches and competed in the first round of the NCAA Singles Championship.
Tim Zeitvogel (Baden-Baden, Germany), a graduate student, is ranked 80 spots higher than last season after starting at #125 to begin 2021. Zeitvogel was All-WCC first team in singles and an honorable mention selection in doubles. He had a successful season on the academic side as well, winning the ITA Southwest Region's Arthur Ashe Jr. Leadership and Sportsmanship Award along with the national and regional ITA Rafael Osuna Sportsmanship Award. Zeitvogel was 23-9 in overall singles last season and is 65-15 in singles in his career.
Pietro Fellin (Milan, Italy), a junior, finished the 2022 spring season ranked #80 by the ITA in singles. Fellin went 19-10 in overall singles last season, advancing to the final of the ITA Southwest Regional in the fall to receive an invite to the ITA National Fall Championships.
Linus Carlsson Halldin (Stockholm, Sweden), a redshirt freshman, redshirted during the dual season in 2022, but he and De Jonge won the doubles title at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic last September. Halldin had an overall doubles record of 7-3 in the 2021 fall season.
Selections for the ITA All-American Championships, held October 1-9 at the University of Tulsa, will be announced tomorrow.
Pepperdine ended its 2022 season at 18-8, the most wins since the 2015 campaign. The Waves advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive season. Six players received All-WCC recognition. The fall schedule gets underway next weekend, September 16-18, with the Kentucky Invitational in Lexington, Ky.
