MALIBU, Calif. – Tabitha LaParl of the #14 Pepperdine women's soccer team was named West Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced today.
 
LaParl (Lakewood, Calif./Los Alamitos HS), a sophomore forward, scored the game-winning goal as the Waves shut out UC Santa Barbara 3-0 and assisted on senior Carlee Giammona's late equalizing goal against California to earn a 1-1 tie. LaParl had a hot foot against the Gauchos and the Bears, as she took eight combined shots including three on goal. During the UC Santa Barbara victory, LaParl received a beautiful right-footed hook pass from freshman Tatum Wynalda. Off a one-hopper, LaParl sent a right-footed rocket that tipped off the UCSB keeper into the back of the net.
 
The momentum continued for LaParl as she took two shots in the first half against Cal and was eager to help the Waves get on the board. In the 76th-minute after falling behind 1-0 to the Bears, Wynalda sent a perfect pass through two Cal defenders to LaParl, who then made a couple of moves closer inside the box and sent a dangerous cross to Giammona who found the back of the net to tie up the game.
 
LaParl has two goals and three assists on the season and is tied for third on the squad in points with seven. She was named to the WCC All-Freshman team last season.
 
This marks the first weekly award for LaParl and the first for Pepperdine this season.
 
The Waves will travel to the desert and visit Arizona on Sunday, Sept. 11 with kickoff set for 1 p.m.
