MALIBU, California – Golfweek released its All-American honors on Monday, and
Joe Highsmith,
Derek Hitchner and
Dylan Menante of the Pepperdine men's golf team received honorable mention status.
The trio helped Pepperdine reach the national semifinals three weeks ago at Grayhawk Golf Club, and finish with national rankings of #4 by Golfweek/Sagarin, #5 in the Bushnell Golfweek coaches poll and #6 by Golfstat. Pepperdine won three tournaments, including its fourth consecutive West Coast Conference title, and had its best-ever finish at an NCAA Regional, placing second in Bryan, Texas.
Highsmith (Lakewood, Wash./Bellarmine Preparatory School) received Golfweek All-American honorable mention honors for the second straight year. He also received honorable mention status from the GCAA/PING both this year and last. Highsmith ended the season ranked #47 by Golfweek/Sagarin and #97 by Golfstat. He won a pair of tournaments (the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate and the NCAA Bryan Regional) en route to a 71.51 scoring average. He finished 10th in the PGA Tour University rankings and began his professional career this past weekend with a tie for second place at the PGA Tour Canada's ATB Classic.
Hitchner (Minneapolis, Minn./The Blake School) received All-American honors for the first time in his career. He ended the season ranked #48 by Golfweek/Sagarin and #61 by Golfstat. He posted a 71.34 scoring average after becoming a regular in the lineup for the first time in his career as a senior. He recorded 20 below-par rounds, tied for fourth in Pepperdine single-season history. He had the match-clinching point in Pepperdine's NCAA quarterfinal win over North Carolina. Hitchner is planning on utilizing a COVID-19 redshirt year to come back for a fifth season in 2022-23.
Menante (Carlsbad, Calif./Sage Creek HS) made the Golfweek All-American third team last season, and also received honorable mention from the GCAA/PING this year. He won a pair of tournaments this year (the Valspar Collegiate Invitational and the Western Intercollegiate) en route to his second straight WCC Player of the Year award. He had rankings of #39 by Golfweek/Sagarin and #42 by Golfstat and a 71.20 scoring average.
The Waves had a total of four All-Americans this season, with
William Mouw receiving honorable mention honors from the GCAA/PING.
