MALIBU, California – Shane Telfer of the Pepperdine baseball team has been named West Coast Conference Pitcher of the Week after the Waves captured the weekend series against PCH Cup rival Loyola Marymount. Telfer had a career day on the hill in the series finale on Sunday.
Â
Telfer, a junior left-handed pitcher from San Diego, Calif., had his best performance in his Waves' career getting the start in the rubber match against the Lions and throwing a career-high 7.0 innings and only allowing two hits. In those seven innings, Telfer and the Waves held LMU scoreless and had already put up a 3-0 lead heading into the last two innings of play. Telfer faced 24 batters and struck out 10, which is also a career-high. Telfer did not give up any walks to the Lions. In the 6-1 win against LMU, Telfer improved to 2-1 on the season.
Â
This marks the first honor of his career and the second for the Waves this season. Greg Mehlhaff was named the first WCC Player of the Week on Feb. 21.
Â
Pepperdine hosts Cal Poly in a midweek matchup on Tuesday, May 17 at Eddy D. Field Stadium. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. and the game will be streamed live on the WCC Network.
