WAVEPOINTS
• The Pepperdine men's basketball team has its two biggest home games of the season coming up with BYU here on Saturday, followed by #2 Gonzaga on Wednesday.
• The Waves have beaten the Cougars in five of the last eight games played in Firestone Fieldhouse, including last season's meeting.
• Pepperdine's impressive quartet of freshmen, which has accounted for 47.0% of the team's points this season, all started together for the first time on Thursday at USF. The last time the Waves started four freshmen was 2008-09.
• Freshman
Houston Mallette is coming off a 23-point effort at USF, his team-best fourth 20-point game of the season. He's sixth in the WCC in three-pointers (2.1) and is on pace to set the Pepperdine freshman record. He's made a three-pointer in 20 straight games, the fifth-longest streak in program history.
• Freshman
Maxwell Lewis scored 26 and 22 points against Pacific last week and he's averaging 13.1 points in conference play.
• Freshman
Mike Mitchell Jr. ranks third in the WCC in assists (4.5) and is already third on Pepperdine's freshman assists list (118).
• Freshman
Carson Basham is averaging 8.3 points since moving into the starting lineup four games ago.
• The Waves were without
Jade' Smith due to injury on Thursday.
Jan Zidek, the team's leading scorer, missed two recent games due to injury and didn't play in the second half at USF after getting banged up.
•
Lorenzo Romar is in his 25th season as a college head coach. It's his fourth season this time around at Pepperdine, and his seventh overall with the Waves.
• Last season, the Waves won the 2021 College Basketball Invitational (CBI).

PEPPERDINE UNIVERSITY — Pepperdine boasts a one-of-a-kind athletic department with unprecedented success for a school of its size. The Waves have won NCAA Division I championships in five different men's sports — one of just 18 schools to have accomplished this feat — and 10 overall. Of this elite group, Pepperdine has the smallest undergraduate enrollment, is the only school without football and is the only university that has not been affiliated with a "major" conference. The Waves have won a total of 26 team or individual national championships in their history. Pepperdine has also earned the Division I-AAA All-Sports Trophy, an award based on postseason success that's given to the top non-football school, three times (most recently in 2011-12). Located in scenic Malibu, California, the university overlooks the Pacific Ocean and its campus and athletic facilities are regularly voted among the nation's most beautiful. Pepperdine, which is affiliated with the Church of Christ, ranks #49 overall on U.S. News and World Report's list of America's best colleges.
