Â
Each side came out swinging in the second set. After a 10-10 tied score, the Waves went ahead by three with an ace from Brown and a solo rejection from Hellmuth. The Lions were close behind, though, turning things around with a 10-1 run to pull ahead 20-14. The Waves started to rally at the end of the set with kills from Brown and Isabel Zelaya, but LMU came away with the 25-20 set win to tie the overall score.Â
Â
Pepperdine had the first edge in the third set, pulling ahead 6-4 with Brown's fourth ace of the night. LMU was close behind, however, closing the gap at 8's and pulling ahead to lead by five at the 18-13 mark. It would be a lead the Waves would not be able to catch as the Lions took the set 25-17 to extend the team's overall lead to 2-1.
Â
After gaining momentum from the previous two sets, LMU had an energy heading into the fourth, pulling away after a 5-5 tie to earn a six-point lead. Pepperdine couldn't find the rhythm throughout the rest of the set, eventually falling 25-16 to end the match 3-1 in the Lions' favor.
