LAS CRUCES, New Mexico – The Pepperdine women's golf team will head into the final round of the Golf Iconic Classic one shot out of the lead, as the Waves dropped to second place behind host New Mexico State on Tuesday.
Pepperdine has a two-day total of a 1-under 575 (284-291) at the par-72 New Mexico State University Golf Course. The Waves came into the day with a three-shot lead but ran into some trouble late in the round.
The Waves are going for their second straight win, as they were victorious at the Golfweek Red Sky Classic in Colorado last week.
PLAYER SCORES
- Junior Lion Higo (Gold Coast, Australia) is in third place with a 5-under 139 (70-69). She'll start the final round two shots behind the leader as she goes for her second straight individual victory. After her only bogey on 6, she came back with birdies on 7, 8, 12 and 17 en route to a score of 3-under.
- Junior Kaleiya Romero (San Jose, Calif.) is tied for sixth place with a 2-under 142 (69-73). She had three birdies on Tuesday.
- Senior Reese Guzman (Kahului, Hawai'i) is tied for 23rd at 147 (74-73). She had three birdies in the second round.
- Sophomore Lauren Gomez (Murrieta, Calif.) is tied for 30th at 148 (72-76). She had one birdie today.
- Freshman Jenny Zhu (Nanjing, China) is tied for 35th at 149 (73-76). She had one birdie on Tuesday.
UP NEXT
Pepperdine will be paired with New Mexico State and Long Beach State for Wednesday's third and final round. There will be a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. MT.
