MALIBU, California – Tori Waldeck of the #9 Pepperdine women's soccer team has been named the West Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Week today. Waldeck scored the only goal against #5 TCU, giving the Waves one of the biggest road wins in program history, and had the primary assist in the Waves' 1-0 win against Texas A&M.
Both wins completed one of the most impressive road trips in Pepperdine history as the Waves knocked off previously undefeated and #5 TCU 1-0 on Thursday, and then handed the Aggies their first home loss in 14 games and broke their six-match unbeaten streak. It was third time in program history, but the first time since 2003, that the Waves have beaten a top-five team on the road (#3 Portland in 2002 and #4 Stanford in 2004). The Waves improved to a 9-1 start and 7-0 on the road, which is the best in program history.
Pepperdine has now beaten Texas A&M twice on its home field and are now 2-1-1 against the Aggies all-time, and have now defeated TCU for the third time in program history (3-0 home in 2002 and 3-2 away in 2005).
Waldeck (Newhall, Calif./Hart HS), a sophomore forward, has been a key player offensively for the Waves. She took five shots against #5 TCU on its home turf and scored the lone goal in the 65th-minute between two Horn Frog defenders. The Waves kept the momentum rolling after the biggest road win to go on and blank Texas A&M on its home field. Waldeck sent a pass to Joelle Anderson from 30 yards out, and Anderson sent the left foot finish past the Aggies goalkeeper to give the Waves its second road win on the trip to the Lone Star state.
Waldeck has scored three goals through ten games and has five assists, collecting 11 points through non-conference play.
This marks the first WCC Offensive Player of the Week for Waldeck. She was named All-WCC second team and WCC All-Freshman team during her first season as a Wave.
The Waves (9-1-0) host Portland in the first WCC matchup on Saturday, October 2 at 1 p.m. The game will be streamed on the WCC Network.
