Williams Earns Olympic Bronze Medal with U.S. Soccer

MALIBU, California – Pepperdine alum Lynn Williams collected a bronze medal with the U.S. women's soccer team at the Olympics. She's the second Wave to play soccer at the Olympics, and the first to medal.

With Luisa Stefani already earning a bronze medal in women's tennis, this is the first Olympics where Pepperdine has had multiple female alums bring home medals. There's a good possibility of adding more, with Kim Hill (U.S. volleyball) and Danielle Kang (U.S. golf) still in the hunt.

Although Williams didn't see action in the bronze medal contest, the U.S. defeated Australia, 4-3, early this morning to cap off its Olympic run. Williams ended up appearing in three of the six matches and made two starts. Her most notable performance came against the Netherlands in the quarterfinals when she had a goal and an assist.

Williams made the All-American first team as a senior with the Waves in 2014 and was a four-time All-WCC pick, three times making the first team. She's second all-time at Pepperdine with 39 goals and also had 24 career assists. Fourteen of those goals and 10 assists came in her senior season.

She is Pepperdine's most accomplished professional, winning three NWSL titles and both the NWSL MVP and Golden Boot awards in 2016. She was a first-round draft pick of the Western NY Flash in 2015 and now plays for the North Carolina Courage. She has now played for the U.S. National Team 40 times and has scored 12 goals.

Roxanne Barker was the first Wave to compete in soccer at the Olympics, having represented South Africa in 2012 and 2016.
