MALIBU, California – A day after being named the West Coast Conference's Player of the Year, Pepperdine sophomore
Dylan Menante added to his list of accomplishments by being named to the United States' Arnold Palmer Cup team today.
The Golf Coaches of Association announced the teams for the June 11-13 competition, which will be held at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Illinois. Twelve men and 12 women were picked for both the U.S. and international squads.
Menante (Carlsbad, Calif./Sage Creek HS), a sophomore, is the WCC's highest-ranked player in the Golfweek/Sagarin ratings at #16. He has a 70.40 stroke average and has posted five top-10 finishes (including four second-place results) and seven top-20 finishes. Fourteen of his 25 rounds have been below-par. He went 2-0 in match play as the Waves won the East Lake Cup in October. His second-place finishes include the Maridoe Collegiate Invitational, the Augusta Haskins Award Invitational and the WCC Championships. He was on the Haskins Award watch list in November and March.
The Arnold Palmer Cup is a Ryder Cup-style tournament pitting the U.S. against a team of international players. It began as a men's event in 1997 and women were added to the competition in 2018. The U.S. leads the all-time series 12-11-1.
Menante is the fourth Wave selected for the Arnold Palmer Cup in the last four years and the fifth all-time, following
Michael Putnam (2005 U.S. men),
Sahith Theegala (2018 U.S. men),
Hira Naveed (2019 international women) and
William Mouw (2020 U.S. men).
Menante and the Waves are ranked fifth in the country by Golfweek/Sagarin and have won a program-record five tournaments this season.
Pepperdine won its third consecutive WCC title and its 21st overall this past weekend. The NCAA Regional selection show is Wednesday (May 5) at 11 a.m. on the Golf Channel. NCAA Regional dates are May 17-19.
