Waves Crush Wolverines 4-0 in NCAA Round of 16

LAKE NONA, Florida – The fifth-ranked Pepperdine women's tennis team took no time in rushing past #20 Michigan in the NCAA Round of 16, defeating the Wolverines 4-0 on Sunday afternoon. The Waves will advance into the tournament quarterfinals for the eighth time in program history and the fourth time in the past five seasons.
 
Pepperdine will face UCLA for the fourth meeting this season on Wednesday, May 19 at a time still to be determined.
 
#21 Jessica Failla once again played the clincher, defeating Chiara Lommer 6-1, 6-3 on court two for the final match point.

RECAP
Pepperdine began the evening in doubles as per usual, where the pair of Ashley Lahey and Lisa Zaar made quick work of Michigan's Jones and Brown on court one, defeating the Wolverines 6-2 to start off.
 
While court two kept their opponents busy, Jessica Failla and Anastasia Iamachkine fell down 1-4 early but stormed back, winning five-straight games to defeat Lorenzini and Cerdan 6-4 on court three to secure the first team point for Pepperdine.
 
In singles, freshman phenom #89 Taisiya Pachkaleva earned her 22nd-straight win of the season, beating Andrea Cerdan on court three at 6-0, 6-3. Pachkaleva currently sits at 24-1 in 2021, as her last loss came in February.
 
#118 Shiori Fukuda was next up for the Waves, crushing Jaedan Brown on court four, going 6-4, 6-1 for the penultimate Pepperdine point on the evening. Failla finished right on cue, stifling Chiara Lommer 6-1, 6-3 for the golden hour clinch point.
 
UP NEXT
The Waves will take the next two days to practice before gearing up on Wednesday, May 19 to take on UCLA for the fourth meeting this season. The two teams ended the regular season with the Waves winning once the Bruins winning twice, as UCLA took the most recent match in Westwood.
