Box Score MALIBU, Calif. – The Pepperdine baseball team dropped the first game of the PCH Cup and West Coast Conference series 4-1 to Loyola Marymount.
The Waves (12-15, 5-5 WCC) got just five hits all game, compared to the Lions' (13-22, 6-10 WCC) eight.
BIG WAVES
- Senior outfielder Reese Alexiades (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Manhattan Beach HS) was the only Wave with multiple hits on the day, as he picked up two singles.
- Senior RHP Dane Morrow (Malibu, Calif./Malibu HS) threw five innings of scoreless relief, striking out four batters.
PLAY-BY-PLAY
The Lions got the scoring started early, scoring an unearned run in the first on an RBI single.
Pepperdine answered in the second inning, getting one run. After
John Peck walked and stole second, a
Joe Caparis pop up was dropped by the third baseman, allowing Peck to score from second. The Lions led 2-1 through two innings.
LMU got another run in the top of the third on an RBI single to left field, retaking a two-run lead.
In the fifth, a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch extended the Lions' lead to 4-1.
Dane Morrow entered the game in the fifth inning and did not give up any runs over his four innings of work.
