Malibu, Calif. — The Pepperdine track team will hope the third time at Azusa Pacific will be the charm, as the Waves will compete for the third-consecutive weekend at APU for the Bryan Clay Invitational this Friday and Saturday.
On Friday, Brandon Davis (Troy, Mich./Troy HS) will kick off the action for the Waves in the 400-meter dash prelims, which are scheduled to start around 4:25 p.m. The action on day one will then conclude with Skyler Danley (Easton, Pa./Easton Area HS), Preston Gromer (Casper, Wyo./Kelly Walsh HS) and Tim Wells (Burbank, Calif./John Burroughs HS) running the 5K.
Saturday will begin with finals for all sprint events, then transition back to finals for distance events. Olivia Miller (Tallahassee, Fla./Lawton Chiles HS), Riley Wright (Chandler, Ariz./Corona del Sol HS) and Annelies Ondersma (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich./University Liggett School) will lead off the Waves in the women's 1,500. The trio of Karl Winter (Stockton, Calif./Saint Mary's HS), Jackson Felkins (Southlake, Texas/Carroll Senior HS) and Kyle McCabe (Westminster, Colo./Holy Family HS) will close out the meet in the 10K.
Per APU policy, spectators will not be permitted, but the action will be livestreamed on FloTrack, albeit behind a paywall. Live results can be found on Finished Results.
LAST LAP
Amidst a sea of new personal bests, three Waves broke school records and three more times rose up the program's top-5 leaderboards at Azusa Pacific's Franson Classic on April 10.
The day started with freshman William Watkins (Mill Valley, Calif./Marin Catholic HS) and senior Brandon Davis (Troy, Mich./Troy HS) going under the school's 400-meter record, yet Watkins emerged with the record with a 50.68.
Soon thereafter, graduate transfer Kennedy Kerr (West Hempstead, N.Y./Long Island Lutheran) improved on her own school record in the 100-meter dash with a 11.89 — just the second time Kerr has run sub-12 in her career, both in a Pepperdine uniform. Kerr, who currently ranks 68th in the 100-meter dash in the West Region, will run the 100 and the 200 this week.
Then, Winter blasted his old 1,500-meter record by running a 3:45.80 — a time that currently ranks 39th in the West Region. He will run the 1,500 again this Saturday.
Other standout performances include freshman Ryan Hemphill (Visalia, Calif./Visalia HS) placing third in the 800-meter dash with a 1:54.67, which is the fourth-fastest time in Pepperdine program history; Kerr's 24.39 in the 200-meter dash; and McCabe lowering Pepperdine's fourth-fastest 5K time to a 14:37.16.
