SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Sitting at 8-5 on the season, the Pilots have only won twice in conference play with wins coming over San Diego and Gonzaga. Their losses came against BYU, San Francisco and Santa Clara in a three-match slide. Portland has no ranked players.
Though their overall record looks appealing, Gonzaga has yet to earn a win in conference play, going 0-5 against Portland, San Diego, BYU, San Francisco and Santa Clara. The Bulldogs are currently on a five-match losing streak, but will get a crack at LMU on Friday before the Waves arrive on Sunday.
SURF REPORT
Coming off two more WCC blanking wins, the Waves have not dropped a point in conference play this season. Freshman
Guy Den Ouden has not lost a dual singles match since February 28 against then-#5 TCU and is currently riding an eight-match win streak, while he and doubles partner
Adrian Oetzbach have won six of their last seven dual doubles matches. Both Oetzbach and his doubles team are ranked in the latest ITA polls at #80 and #82 respectively.
Sophomore
Pietro Fellin is 7-0 when playing on court six, and is usually the first to the finish line for the Waves. Interestingly enough,
Daniel De Jonge is 5-0 when playing against tougher competition on court two, but has yet to win a match on court three this season.
UP NEXT
The Waves have rescheduled their match against UCLA that was postponed earlier in the season due to COVID-19 issues and will take on the Bruins in Westwood on Wednesday, April 21 at 2 p.m.
