FRESNO, Calif. — Sprinters
Kennedy Kerr and
William Watkins moved up Pepperdine's top-five performance lists, plus
Karl Winter won the 1,500-meters at the Central California Invitational, held at Fresno Pacific on Saturday, March 6.
"We had a nice day in Fresno with several great performances," Pepperdine head coach Sylvia Mosqueda said. "Overall it was a long but enjoyable day and we're excited to be competing on the track again and see what the future holds for the entire team."
The meet featured nine schools, including three Division 1 programs making their outdoor season debuts.

The 12.19 that Kerr (West Hempstead, N.Y./Long Island Lutheran) ran in the 100-meter dash ranks third in Pepperdine program history.

Watkins (Mill Valley, Calif./Marin Catholic HS) shaved nearly two seconds off of his last collegiate 400 to run a 51.85, which ranks fourth in program history.

Kyle McCabe (Westminster, Colo./Holy Family HS) placed fourth in the men's 5,000-meter race with a 14:43.22, which ranks fourth in program history. His teammate Justin Touhey (Stony Point, N.Y./Don Bosco Preparatory HS) nearly set a new personal best in the same event; he placed seventh with a 15:05.21.

Annelies Ondersma (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich./University Liggett School) won her heat of the 1,500 meters with a 5:12.3. Her time was sixth overall.

Winter (Stockton, Calif./Saint Mary's HS) placed second in the 800-meter dash with a 1:54.42, which is 36-hundredths of a second behind the school record.

Winter has now gone back-to-back seasons with at least one 1,500-meter victory. His 3:58.13 was more than five seconds ahead of the next finisher.

Jaad Abduljawad (Jeddah, Saudi Arabia/Cal Coast Academy) finished close behind Watkins in the 400-meters albeit in a different heat. He ran a 52.63 in his 400-meter debut.
NEXT UP: The Waves will return to Fresno Pacific University on March 20 for the State Central Invitational. The meet starts at 8 a.m.
