INTERVIEWS

PLAY-BY-PLAY
LMU came out swinging in the first set, amassing a 7-1 run to open the match.  The Waves were close behind, however, tying the score at 11-11 before working point-for-point to an 18-18 tie.  Back-to-back kills from seniors Alli O'Harra and Shannon Scully, followed by an ace from Rachel Ahrens put the Waves ahead and late kills from Scully and Meg Brown closed the set with a 25-22 Waves' win.

Pepperdine used that late momentum form the first set and quickly came out to lead 8-1 with a O'Harra, Emma Ammerman block collaborations and several smashes from Ahrens.  It would be a lead the Waves would keep throughout and late-set kills from O'Harra kept the home squad ahead towards a 16-10 advantage.  A block from Scully and Meg Brown helped the cause and a pair of consecutive kills from Ahrens gave the Waves a 25-19 set win to pull ahead 2-0 heading into the third.

In the third and final set, the Lions were clawing tooth and nail to stay in the match, but the Waves continued to push the opposition.  Pepperdine and LMU went point-for-point to a 20-20 tied score late in the action.  The Lions went up by two and then eventually led 23-21, but a kill from Ammerman and an attack error from across the net tied things up.  Scully then put a smash down to give the Waves an opportunity to close the match, but LMU fought off the chance and tied the score at 24-24.  Scully found the floor yet again to give Pepperdine a chance to win the match and this time, she and Brown did the honors with a Malibu Roofing Company block to end the PCH Cup battle with a 26-24 final set and the 3-0 sweep.
