RECAP
Starting off the day in doubles,
Taisiya Pachkaleva and
Lisa Zaar proved to be a bright spot for the Waves after they defeated Georgia Tech's Lee and Dedaj on court three 6-2 for the first win of the day. The tide turned slightly on the other two courts and Pepperdine dropped the doubles point.
Being down 1-0 didn't stop the Waves' fight, however, as #33
Jessica Failla took on the tall task of upsetting Tech's #13 Kenya Jones in straight sets in what seemed to be the easiest match of the day.
After a loss on court three, redshirt freshman #45
Lexi Ryngler battled the Jackets' Mahak Jain on court four. The first set required a tie-breaker as Ryngler outlasted her opponent going 7-6(8). She only needed an extra game in the second set, however, to finally put Jain to rest and even the overall score at 2-2.
Sophomore
Lisa Zaar had herself a day, pushing through three sets against Carol Lee on court five. Zaar handily took the first set 6-1, but dipped in a tie break in the second set to force a third. She gathered her notes from the first set and defeated Lee 6-2 in the third to finally get the Waves over the hump at 3-2.
With #13
Shiori Fukuda's match going into tie-breaks on each of the first two sets, all eyes landed on
Nikki Redelijk battling it out on court six. Redelijk had taken the first set at 7-5 but fell 2-6 in the second. She came out strong in the third set and went up a quick 5-1 before Tech's Garcia Gross made a short comeback, pushing the score to 5-4.
Redelijk eventually grew tired of entertaining Garcia Gross and only allowed her a single point in the last frame, as the Wave won 6-4 and clinched the match for Pepperdine at 4-2.
