#5 Pepperdine Falls in ITA Indoors Semifinals

STILLWATER, Okla. – The fifth-ranked Pepperdine women's tennis team took a hard-fought loss to top-ranked North Carolina 4-1 on Saturday morning. Their time in the ITA Indoors is not quite over, however, as the Waves will face the loser of #2 UCLA and #3 Texas tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. PT.

After dropping the doubles point to the Tarheels, the Waves took to singles where almost every Pepperdine player earned the first point of the first set.
#88 Taisiya Pachkaleva shined for the Waves on court four, where she took a 6-4 first-set win over UNC's #79 Elizabeth Scotty but shut Scotty out in the second, going 6-0 for Pepperdine's lone singles point of the match.
33rd-ranked Jessica Failla showed heart on court one, going neck-and-neck with #3 Alexa Graham and finally winning 7-5 in set one over the Tarheel. In the second set, she came out with the same intensity, eventually going up 5-2 before the UNC clinch point stopped play.
12th-ranked Shiori Fukuda fought back hard against #4 Sara Daavettila after falling in the first round. In the second, Fukuda only allowed her opponent one point, going 6-1 to force a third set that went unfinished.
