Pepperdine Releases 2021 Cross Country and Track Schedules
2/10/2021 10:07:00 AM | Cross Country, Track
Unlike most years, Pepperdine will open its season at a track meet held at Westmont College's Sunshine Invitational on Feb. 13. Eleven days later, the cross country team will then compete in the WCC Cross Country Championships, held in Las Vegas, Nev. for the Waves' lone race of the season. From there, the Waves will continue their outdoor track season until its completion in May.
All told, Pepperdine's cross country and track runners will compete at nine track meets and one cross country race this season. The women's track and field team will not compete in any indoor meets, opting to compete in an outdoor-only season this year.
The Waves' California-only outdoor track schedule includes two meets at UCLA, Fresno Pacific, Riverside City College and could include an appearance at the prestigious Mt. SAC Relays — the latter of which requires runners to hit certain qualifying standards times in order to compete.
Track season begins at the aforementioned Sunshine Invitational on Feb. 13. From there, Pepperdine's next track meet will be the Central California Invitational, hosted by Fresno Pacific on March 6. The Waves round out a busy month of March with appearances at the RCC Open in Riverside, Calif. (March 19), then the Bob Larsen Distance Carnival (March 24) and the Legends Invitational (March 25), both held at UCLA.
In April, the Waves return to Fresno Pacific for the Wildflower Invitational on April 10 before competing at the Mt. SAC Relays from April 15-17. The team then returns to Riverside City College for a final time on April 23 for the RCC Invitational.
For athletes who meet the event's qualifying standards, the Arnie Robinson Invitational on Friday, May 14 will be the grand finale to the 2021 outdoor track season.
The schedules are as follows. Future meets may be added or dropped; all dates and times are subject to change.

Pepperdine's distance squad will be led by juniors Karl Winter (Stockton, Calif./Saint Mary's HS) and Jackson Felkins (Southlake, Texas/Carroll Senior HS). Winter set program records in both the 1,500 meters and the 3,000 meters before the spring 2020 season was cut short. Felkins, meanwhile, set the program record in the 10,000 meters as a freshman in 2019. Brandon Davis (Troy, Mich./Troy HS) — Pepperdine's school record-holder in the 400 meters — is the men's top returner on the sprint side.
The women's cross country team returns school record-holder Skyler Danley (Easton, Pa./Easton Area HS), who set program records in the outdoor 3,000 meters and the indoor 5,000 meters as a freshman last year.
