MALIBU, Calif. — The Pepperdine men's cross country and track team picked up its second class of 2025 signee, as Coppell (Texas) HS product Colin Proctor recently signed his National Letter of Intent with the Waves.
"Pepperdine really crossed off all the boxes on my checklist with a great track and cross country team, as well as my interest of study and a wonderful campus," Proctor said. "I'm really looking forward to all the new relationships I will gain in Malibu as well as growing my relationship with Christ. I also can't wait to become stronger as a runner throughout my years."
Proctor, a Coppell (Texas) High School product, has been a mainstay on Coppell's cross country and track teams. As a junior and as a senior, Proctor has helped Coppell qualify for the 6A State Cross Country Championships, culminating a fifth-place finish as a team in 2019. Proctor has personal bests of 15:39.4 in the 5K and 14:53 in the 3-mile, which he ran at the 39th Woodbridge Cross Country Classic as a junior. In that same race, he competed against current Pepperdine freshman Nathaniel Lannen. Proctor and current Pepperdine freshman Johnathan Flint have also crossed paths frequently throughout their high school careers, as they competed in the same district. As it stands, Proctor will be the fourth Texan on Pepperdine's 2021 men's cross country roster.
In track, Coppell has won District 06 titles every season with Proctor on the roster. He has recorded personal bests of 1:56 in the 800 meters, 4:23 in the 1600 meters and 9:39 in the 3200. Proctor — whose father also ran track for Southern Methodist University in the late 80s and early 90s — prefers the mid-distance events.
"I really like the mid-distances, like the 800 and the 1600," Proctor said. "They're such fast and competitive races and I really enjoy the fight."
When he is not running, Proctor enjoys acting; he has performed in several performances, shows and films in his hometown.
Proctor will join fellow class of 2025 signee Jakob Knox, who signed in December 2020, for the fall 2021 cross country season.
Pepperdine is building off of a seventh-place finish in the 2019 WCC Men's Cross Country Championships and a 13th-place finish at the NCAA West Regional, the latter of which is the best result in program history. The Waves will be back in action in spring 2021, as the fall 2020 season was postponed.
