Mitchell Receives WCC Freshman of the Week Award

MALIBU, California – The Pepperdine men's basketball team collected its second consecutive West Coast Conference Freshman of the Week honor, as Mike Mitchell Jr. received the league's award today.
Last week, teammate Houston Mallette won the honor for the first time in his career, while Mitchell followed suit this week.
Mitchell (San Jose, Calif./Archbishop Mitty HS) had 11 points, six assists, three steals and two rebounds in Pepperdine's only game this past week, an 83-77 home victory over Southeast Missouri on Saturday. He had a plus-minus of +11, tied for the best in the contest.
He raised his season averages to 8.2 points and a WCC-leading 5.1 assists per game. He's shooting a team-best 41.7% from beyond the arc (20-for-48). During Pepperdine's current three-game winning streak, he's averaged 7.0 assists per game.
Pepperdine closes out non-conference play with two games this week. The Waves visit Oregon on Tuesday (Dec. 21) at 6 p.m.. The game will be televised by the Pac-12 Networks and there will be an audio-only WaveCasts at PepperdineWaves.com. On Thursday (Dec. 23), the Waves host Westmont at 1 p.m. The game will be streamed online on the WCC Network.
