Baseball Announces Four NLI Signings

MALIBU, California – Head Coach Rick Hirtensteiner of the Pepperdine baseball team announced today that four recruits have signed National Letters of Intent. Adam Troy, Luke Gombos, Jack Goodman and Matt Quintanar will be joining the Waves in the fall of 2022.

Here's some more information on the Waves' signees:

Adam Troy, RHP
Houston, Texas/Summer Creek HS
A four-year varsity performer, Troy was unanimously voted the District 21 Pitcher of the Year as a junior. His high school career ERA is 1.89. Perfect Game gives him a grade of 7.5. Troy's father pitched at New Mexico State.

Troy on choosing Pepperdine: "The balance between a high-quality education and a good baseball program suits me well at Pepperdine."

Hirtensteiner on Troy: "Adam is a 6-foot-3 right-handed power pitcher from the state of Texas. He has a fastball with good life that he can move around in the zone, which paired with a very good change up, makes it tough for opposing hitters. I look forward to seeing Adam on the mound for the Waves in 2023."

Luke Gombos, INF
Stevenson Ranch, Calif./Bishop Alemany HS
Gombos will be a four-year varsity starter at Bishop Alemany High School, hitting .471 as a freshman and .402 as a junior with two home runs, nine doubles, 13 stolen bases and a .970 fielding percentage. He was All-Mission League first team as a junior and a Baseball Factory preseason All-American as a senior.

Gombos on choosing Pepperdine: "I chose Pepperdine because I believe it's the best place for me to grow as a person, student and athlete."

Hirtensteiner on Gombos: "Luke is a versatile infielder with the ability to play all infield positions and he possesses great arm strength.  Offensively, Luke is a power bat with many of his hits going for extra bases. He has a tremendous work ethic. I am excited to see Luke in a Waves uniform for the 2023 season."

Jack Goodman, INF
Medfield, Mass./Medfield HS
Goodman will be a four-year starter at Medfield High School, earning Tri-Valley League Defensive Player of the Year honors while being named to the Tri-Valley League all-star team. His father played Division I football at Northeastern University.

Goodman on choosing Pepperdine: "I chose Pepperdine because it's the perfect opportunity for me on the field, in the classroom and as a person. I will be given the opportunity to reach new heights. I love everything about the coaching staff and the team, and not to mention the one-of-a-kind location, too. I could not be more excited about becoming a Wave!"

Hirtensteiner on Goodman: "Jack is a tremendous athlete with the rare combination of speed and power. He can drive the ball to the outfield for extra-base hits, steal bases, and put continual pressure on the opposing team. Watching Jack play, it is easy to see he loves to play baseball and I am excited to see his athleticism and energy out at Eddy D. Field Stadium during the 2023 season."

Matt Quintanar, Catcher
Sunland, Calif./William S. Hart HS
Quintanar was the Foothill League Player of the Year and an All-CIF first-team honoree as a junior. He also made the Los Angeles Daily News All-Area team. Perfect Game gave him a grade of 9.

Quintanar on choosing Pepperdine: "Pepperdine is the environment that I feel is the best fit for me. It has been my dream school since I went to a baseball camp when I was 10. I love the people and it is a great place to spend my next four years."

Hirtensteiner on Quintanar: "I look for Matt to make an immediate impact for the Waves on both sides of the ball. He has good skills as a catcher with a plus arm and plays the game with tons of energy. As a hitter Matt can hit for both power and average. He is an aggressive hitter who looks to do damage with every swing he takes. I look for Matt to be a middle of the order bat early in his career at Pepperdine."
