MALIBU, California – Kelsey Hill of the #4 Pepperdine women's soccer team was named the West Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week today after scoring a goal in a 3-0 defeat of Gonzaga and helping Pepperdine extend its shutout record.
Hill (Elk Grove, Calif./Cosumnes Oaks HS/Saint Mary's), a redshirt senior defender, has played a key role on the back line for the Waves and helped them post a new shutout record with their seventh in a row. She only took one shot in the game, which was perfectly on target for her second goal of the season. She played the full 90 minutes against the Bulldogs and helped hold them to only six shots with three on target.
Hill has started every game for the Waves this season and currently ranks third on the team with 1,183 minutes played. She has been a vital member of the back line stopping shots and has helped the Waves not allow a goal in the last 694 minutes. Through two seasons with Pepperdine, Hill has scored two goals and has played 26 games so far.
This is the first WCC weekly award for Hill and the league-best sixth of the season for Pepperdine.
The Waves (13-1-0, 4-0-0) will visit the defending NCAA champion Santa Clara (7-4-2, 4-0) for a matchup under the lights on Wednesday (October 20) at 7 p.m. The game will be televised on ESPNU.
