Sahith Theegala won the 2020 Fred Haskins Award, given to the nation's top player in college golf, and
William Mouw will be trying to make it two in a row for the Waves this season. The sophomore earned a spot on the Haskins Award preseason watch list, which was announced today.
Mouw (Chino, Calif./Ontario Christian HS) earned All-American first team honors from the GCAA/PING and second team status from Golfweek as a 2019-20 freshman, and finished the spring ranked #10 nationally by Golfstat and #15 by Golfweek/Sagarin. His scoring average of 69.96 ranks second on Pepperdine single-season records list. He won the Amer Ari Invitational among his five top-10 finishes.
Mouw was also on the Haskins Award watch list as a freshman. He was named to the 2020 U.S. Arnold Palmer Cup team. That competition has been postponed to December.
Pepperdine was ranked #1 in the Bushnell Golfweek coaches poll and in the Golfstat computer rankings when the remainder of the season was canceled in mid-March due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Although Theegala -- the unanimous National Player of the Year -- graduated and turned professional, nine of the 10 letterwinners from last year's squad return.
