Waves Sixth Seed in West Coast Conference Tournament

MALIBU, Calif. –The Pepperdine women's basketball team heads to Las Vegas this week for the University Credit Union West Coast Conference Tournament. The team earned the sixth seed in the tournament and will play the winner of the first-round game between Loyola Marymount and Saint Mary's.
GAME #29: Friday (March 6) at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, Nev.: Pepperdine (14-14, 8-10 WCC) vs. LMU (7-24, 3-15 WCC) or Saint Mary's (11-18,6-12 WCC) at 2 p.m.
COVERAGE: All games in the West Coast Conference Basketball Tournament prior to the championship game on Tuesday, March 10 will be broadcast by NBC Sports Bay Area, ROOT Sports Northwest, BYUtv, AT&T Sportsnet Rocky Mountain and the WCC Network. Tuesday's championship game will be broadcast on ESPNU. There will also be an audio-only broadcast through WaveCasts with Hall of Fame broadcaster Al Epstein for each Pepperdine game.
SERIES VS. LMU: The Waves and Lions split the season series this year, with each team winning on the road. Pepperdine defeated LMU in the last meeting, 77-76. In the WCC Tournament, the Waves have a 3-2 advantage, but fell to the Lions in the last meeting in 2015, 56-45.
SERIES VS. SAINT MARY'S: The Waves and Gaels also split the season series, with each team winning at home. The Waves won the last meeting, 73-64 in overtime in Malibu. In the WCC Tournament, the Waves have a 5-3 advantage, but the Gaels won the last meeting 67-63 in 2012.
WCC TOURNAMENT HISTORY: In the 27 West Coast Conference Tournaments, the Waves have an overall record of 25-24 and have won three championships in 2002, 2003 and 2006. In the most recent iteration, the Waves made it to the semifinal after securing the third seed. In the quarterfinal game against Pacific, the Waves defeated the Tigers 87-84. In the semifinal game against BYU, the Waves led the majority of the game, but the Cougars rallied to take a late lead. The Waves tried to make a valiant comeback, but shots would not fall and the Cougars won 68-63.
WCC POSTSEASON AWARDS: Two Waves were named to All-WCC postseason teams this year. Barbara Sitanggan was named to the first team after being near the top of the conference leaderboard in assists and steals, as well as leading the conference in assist-to-turnover ratio. Jayla Ruffus-Milner was named to the All-Freshman team after scoring 5.6 points per game and being a stalwart defensive player for the Waves.
RECORD CHASING: Barbara Sitanggan became the Pepperdine women's basketball all-time leader in assists on Feb. 8 when she dished out her 453rd career assist against Santa Clara in the second quarter. She added three more during that game and currently sits at 485 career assists. Sitanggan is also sixth all-time in free throws made with 372 ... Paige Fecske became the program's 24th member of the 1,000 point club on Jan. 23 at Gonzaga. She hit a three-pointer in the corner to reach the 1,000 point mark. She also has made 162 3-pointers in her career, fourth all-time at Pepperdine.
WCC LEADERS: Four Waves are in the top-30 in the conference in scoring: Hannah Friend (10.9 ppg, 20th), Malia Bambrick (10.3, 24th), Barbara Sitanggan (10.0 ppg, 26th) and Monique Andriuolo (9.3, 29th).
Andriuolo is seventh in the conference in rebounding, bringing 7.2 boards down per game. She also has 37 blocked shots, good for second in the WCC.
Sitanggan is currently third in the conference in assists with 126, fifth in steals with 62, and third in free throw percentage at 82.4%. She also leads the conference in assist/turnover radio, netting 3.3 assists per turnover. Her assist/turnover ratio is also third in the nation.
LAST TIME OUT: Last week, the Waves had their final two regular-season games.
The Waves first traveled to Provo, Utah and gave BYU a tight game. After overcoming an 11-point lead, the Waves fought back and had a chance to win the game with a late shot, but it sailed long and gave the Cougars a 64-62 victory.
In the final regular-season game, the Waves led after three quarters in San Diego, and at one point led by nine points, but the Toreros fought back to win the game 62-58.
WCC PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Monique Andriuolo became the first Wave to earn WCC Player of the Week honors this year on Feb. 3. Her performances against Pacific and Saint Mary's netted her 18.5 points per game and 13.5 rebounds per game. She had 30 points and 17 rebounds against Saint Mary's. It was the first career honor for the junior from Melbourne, Australia.
LAST YEAR: Last year was Pepperdine women's basketball's best season in a long time. The Waves posted their first winning season since 2012. Pepperdine had its best WCC finish (third) and WCC seeding (third) since 2011. The Waves also won 20 games for the first time since 2010, the 12th such season in program history. The Waves lost one of the all-time great women's basketball players in Yasmine Robinson-Bacote, who graduated as the fourth-leading scorer in Pepperdine history with 1,772 points as well as having the fourth highest scoring average, scoring 15.3 points per game.
