MALIBU, California – Pepperdine's
Colbey Ross was named to the All-West Coast Conference men's basketball first team for the second consecutive year, highlighting the four Waves who picked up postseason honors today.
Additionally, brothers
Kameron Edwards and
Kessler Edwards both made the All-WCC second team, and
Sedrick Altman was rewarded with WCC All-Freshman team status.
Ross (Aurora, Colo./Eaglecrest HS), a junior guard, ranks first in the WCC in assists (7.2) and second in scoring (19.8). In league games only, he was first in assists (7.0) and third in scoring (19.8). Nationally, he ranks third in total assists (216) and fifth in assists per game. Ross scored 20 or more points in 11 of the 16 league games and had 30 at Portland (Feb. 20). He hit a game-winning shot at the buzzer to beat San Diego (Feb. 13). He became Pepperdine's all-time assist leader this season and moved into the WCC's all-time top 10, and has risen to #2 on the Waves' all-time scoring list. Ross has now earned All-WCC honors all three seasons, making honorable mention as a freshman and the first team as a sophomore and junior. He's just the second Wave in the last 15 seasons to make multiple All-WCC first teams.
Kameron Edwards (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif./Etiwanda HS), a senior forward, ranks fifth overall in the conference in both scoring (16.5) and rebounding (7.1). In WCC play, he averaged 16.1 points (seventh) and 7.9 rebounds (third). Edwards' best scoring game in league play was 27 at Loyola Marymount (Feb. 1) and he also had a 21-point, 14-rebound double-double at Santa Clara (Jan. 23). Last season, he made All-WCC honorable mention.
Kessler Edwards (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif./Etiwanda HS), a sophomore forward, is the league's top shot-blocker, both overall (1.9) and in league games only (2.1). Overall, he ranks 13th in scoring (13.7) and fourth in rebounding (7.6). He had three double-doubles in league play, including each of the last two games. Last season, he made the WCC All-Freshman team.
Altman (Rialto, Calif./Colony HS), a freshman guard, started 14 conference games and averaged 7.4 points in league play. After averaging just 2.8 points in non-conference play, he's raised his overall scoring average to 5.3 points. Five of his six double-digit scoring games have come in WCC games. This is the seventh time in the last eight seasons that Pepperdine has placed a student-athlete on the All-Freshman team.
The sixth-seeded Waves (15-15, 8-8) begin play at the WCC Tournament on Friday night (March 6) at 8 p.m. at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas. They'll face either seventh-seeded Santa Clara or 10th-seeded Portland, who meet in the first round on Thursday night.
