#10 Waves Fall in Pair of Duals to #2 UCLA, #6 USC

LOS ANGELES, CALIF. – The #10 Pepperdine beach volleyball team fell in a pair of tough matches at Merle Norman Stadium, dropping 3-2 to #2 UCLA and 4-1 to #6 USC.

The Waves (2-5) will return home to Zuma Beach to host #2 UCLA, #5 Cal Poly and #18 Georgia State for the Zuma Classic on Saturday, March 14.

MATCH RECAP
In the first match of the day, the Waves started off by collecting on the first point of the action on court four. Melanie Paul and Simone Priebe took down Joy Dennis and Harper Hallgren 21-17, 21-16, before USC rallied on court three to even the overall score.  Â

In the second flight, the Trojans took court five in a pair of sets, while courts one and two were fights through to the end. Brook Bauer and Deahna Kraft fell in the first set, but rallied for a 21-17 second set win to force a third against Haley Hallgren and Hailey Harward. The opposition was able to take the overall match on the court, however. On court two, Carly Skjodt and Sutton Mactavish won the first set 21-19 before falling in a tough 22-20 second set against Kyla Doig and Sammy Slater. The Trojans would take the final set 15-12, however, to make it a 4-1 finish.

The second match was close as well. After the Bruins on court three took the first point of the match, Paul and Priebe rallied on court four to even the overall with a 23-21, 23-21 win over Rileigh Powers and Devon Newberry.Â

In the second flight, UCLA won another point with a two-set win on court five, and continued with another victory on court one to win the dual. Skjodt and Mactavish weren't done yet, though, as the Waves took down Lexi Denaburg and Lindsey Sparks 23-21 and 21-16 to make it a 3-2 overall score.
