RECAP
Kicking things off early in Chicago, the #6 Waves took to doubles. Down 2-0, the tandem of
Lisa Zaar and
Daria Kuczer fought back against UVA's Johanson and Glozman, but eventually fell 7-6(2) in a tie break.
In singles, however, Pepperdine picked it up and went at the Cavaliers. The
#36 Anastasia Iamachkine struck first on court three, going 6-4 in the first set and taking an uncontested 6-0 second set to put the overall score tied at 1-1. Then, #124 Zaar defeated Glozman on court five, 6-1, 6-3 to put the Waves back in winning position at 2-1.
Top-ranked
Ashley Lahey beat Virginia's #21 Subhash 6-3, 6-3 to put Pepperdine up two but Kuczer faltered on six for a 3-2 overall score. Then it was a race to the finish between
#37 Jessica Failla and
Astrid Olsen, who were both tied at fives in their respective second sets on courts two and four. It was Olsen who clinched the match, however, going 7-5, 6-4 over #87 Munera, making the final score 4-2 in favor of the Waves.
