MALIBU, Calif. – Cooper Chandler of the Pepperdine baseball team was named West Coast Conference Pitcher of the Week, as announced by the conference on Monday. This is the first honor earned by a Wave this season, and the first of Chandler's career.
Â
Chandler had one of the best performances in the country this past weekend on Saturday against Akron. The junior from Tyler, Texas took a no-hitter into the eighth inning, allowing just one hit over those eight innings. After walking the first batter he faced, Chandler retired the next 22 batters he faced. The Walk was the lone blemish until the eighth, and he struck out a career-high 10 en route to picking up his second win of the year.
Â
The performance garnered a game score of 89, the second highest in the country on Saturday.
Pepperdine takes on #10 UCLA on Wednesday before heading to the East Coast to take on Florida International in a weekend series.

The Game Score is a metric devised by baseball writer and historian Bill James to determine the strength of a pitcher in any particular baseball game.
To determine a starting pitcher's game score:
- Start with 50 points.
- Add one point for each out recorded, so three points for every complete inning pitched.
- Add two points for each inning completed after the fourth.
- Add one point for each strikeout.
- Subtract two points for each hit allowed.
- Subtract four points for each earned run allowed.
- Subtract two points for each unearned run allowed.
- Subtract one point for each walk.
