MALIBU, California — The Peppperdine women's soccer team heads out on the road for the first time this season as the Waves visit Cal Poly on Friday night.
Despite a rough last weekend of play, the Waves are still receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches poll.
MATCH #5 — Friday (September 6) at Alex G. Spanos Stadium in San Luis Obispo, California: Pepperdine (1-2-1) at Cal Poly (0-3-1) at 7 p.m.

OPPONENT — Pepperdine is 6-4-3 all-time against Cal Poly. The last meeting was in 2016 (a 2-1 Waves win in overtime on the road). The Waves are unbeaten (3-0-2) in the last five matchups. Pepperdine has a 2-3-1 record in San Luis Obispo. This will be Cal Poly's home opener. After starting the year with a draw at San Jose State, the Mustangs lost to Sacramento State, Utah Valley and Utah.
LAST WEEK — The Waves dropped a pair of home games to Illinois (3-2) and #9 Vanderbilt (1-0), with both opponents scoring the game-winning goal in the final 10 minutes of play. Pepperdine had a pair of one-goal leads against Illinois thanks to tallies by
Brie Welch and
Leyla McFarland, but Illinois tied it twice and scored again in the 82nd minute. The Commodores and Waves were locked in a defensive struggle until Vandy scored in the 86th minute.
NOTABLE — Brie Welch has a team-high two goals out of the five that the Waves have scored this season ... Pepperdine has one of the toughest non-conference schedules in the country. The combined win-loss record of their non-conference opponents in 2018 was 120-62-20 (.643), and five of them won matches in the 2018 NCAA Tournament.
TICKETS — Single-game tickets at Tari Frahm Rokus Field cost $10 each for adults and $8 each for children under 12, seniors 65+ and alumni/Crest members. Students, faculty and staff are free with an ID. Groups of 10 or more can purchase tickets for $5 each.
NEXT — Pepperdine plays its final two home non-conference games next week, hosting #3 Stanford (Friday, September 13) and San Diego State (Sunday, September 15). Six of the Waves' first seven matches are at home.
