LOS ANGELES – The sixth-ranked Pepperdine men's water polo team defeated Long Beach State 14-10 on Sunday to take seventh place in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Invite.
Chris Dilworth led the Waves with five goals.
The Waves (11-5) dominated in the first half, keeping a Beach (10-6) comeback at bay in the second half.

Pepperdine got off to a great start, scoring the first five goals of the game thanks to
Sean Thomas (Covina, Calif./Loyola HS),
George Mooney (Whittier, Calif./La Serna HS),
Sean Ferrari (Redwood City, Calif./St. Francis HS)
Balazs Kosa (Budapest, Hungary/Csik Ferenc Altalanos Iskola es Gimnazium) and Dilworth (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Thousand Oaks HS). After Long Beach scored,
Curtis Jarvis (Huntington Beach, Calif./Huntington Beach HS) scored the Waves' sixth goal of the period, giving Pepperdine a 6-1 lead after the first quarter.
The second quarter was much of the same, with Dilworth opening up the scoring for the Waves. Kosa followed with his second and third goals of the game after the Beach scored twice, pushing the Waves lead to 9-3 at the half.
After the half, the Beach scored first, but Dilworth and Kosa went back-to-back netting Dilworth's third goal and Kosa's fourth goal of the day. Thomas and Dilworth closed the quarter with goals and the Waves led 13-5 at the end of the third. The Beach mounted a comeback in the fourth, scoring five goals, but could not come all the way back as Dilworth scored his fifth goal of the day, cementing the 14-10 win for seventh place.
