Water Polo to Play in Gary Troyer Tournament

Malibu, Calif. –The No. 7 Pepperdine men's water polo team heads to Claremont this weekend for the Gary Troyer Tournament, hosted by Pomona-Pitzer. The Waves will take on the host Sagehens as well as Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges on Saturday. The head coaches of both Pomona-Pitzer (Alex Rodriguez) and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (Greg Lonzo) are Pepperidne water polo alumni.

Game #17: Saturday (Oct. 5) at 1:00 p.m. at Matt M. Axelrood Pool in Claremont, Calif.: No. 7 Pepperdine (11-5) vs. No. 18 Pomona-Pitzer (7-4).

Game #18: Saturday (Oct. 5) at 6:20 p.m. at Matt M. Axelrood Pool in Claremont, Calif.: No. 7 Pepperdine vs. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (5-6).

Conference Leaders: Balazs Kosa leads all Golden Coast Conference players in goals scored (45) and points (64) and is in a tie for second in assists with 19. Curtis Jarvis is also in the top 10 in goals scored with 24, assists with 18 and total points wtih 42. Â

Last Week: The Waves took part in the annual MPSF Invite last week, taking seventh place. They opened the tournament with a 12-8 victory over UC San Diego before close losses to #1 UC Santa Barbara and #7 Cal before defeating Long Beach State in the seventh-place game 14-10.

National Rankings: The Waves are once again near the top of the Collegiate Water Polo national rankings. The Collegiate Water Polo Association has Pepperdine ranked #7 in the fifth week of the season.

Schroeder: Head Coach Terry Schroeder is in his 27th year of coaching at Pepperdine. His first stint of coaching was from 1986-2005, after which he took an eight-year break to coach the United States National Team.
