RECAP:
Daria Kuczer started out hot, taking out her first two opponents in the round of 16 and quarterfinals after receiving a bye in the opening round. After defeating Wake Forest's Chandler Carter in straight sets going 6-1, 6-1, Kuczer beat Sydney Van Alphen of USC 6-3, 3-6, 6-3. Kuczer then took on Anna Campana, also of Wake Forest, but dropped the match, going 6-7(4), 6-2, 0-6 to complete her singles play.
Freshman
Lisa Zaar also acquired a bye through the first round of play, where she then met up with San Francisco's Rita Colyer and was defeated 4-6, 3-6 to put her out of the main draw. Zaar was then placed in a round robin-style of play on Sunday, where she defeated Abby Amos of Arizona 7-5, 6-2.
On the doubles side, Kuczer and Zaar cruised through the bracket but ultimately lost in the finals. To begin, the pair defeated A. Campana and Alexis Franco of Wake Worest 8-3 and moved on to beat Abby Amos and Talya Zandberg from Arizona 8-4. In the finals, however, Kuczer and Zaar lost to Wake Forest's Carolyn Campana and Carter 8-4.
QUOTABLE:
"For me it was a good tournament… I think I could have done more in my semifinal match, but I am still happy with my performance," sophomore Kuczer said.
"I'm so happy about my doubles play with Lisa [Zaar]. We've known each other for a long time, but we've never had a chance to play doubles together, and during this tournament we played really good doubles."
