#9 Pepperdine Wins Thriller Over #8 UCLA

WESTWOOD, Calif. – The 9th-ranked Pepperdine women's tennis team went down to the wire Wednesday afternoon, upsetting No. 8 UCLA in thrilling 4-3 fashion.
The three hour and ten minute battle handed the Waves a season sweep of the Bruins as they blanked UCLA 4-0 in Malibu a month prior. The win puts Pepperdine at 12-3 overall.

MATCH RECAP
The Waves kicked off the dual in doubles play, as all three courts took early leads. The pair of Adrijana Lekaj and Dzina Milovanovic held a 4-2 lead before their Bruin opponents came back and defeated the tandem 6-4 to clinch the doubles point.
On the singles side, it was Anastasia Iamachkine who struck first, annihilating her competition 6-0, 6-0 on court six and putting Pepperdine on the board, 1-1. Daria Kuczer completed another two-set sweep, winning by scores of 6-4 and 6-3 and evening out the overall score to 2-2.
No. 81 Jessica Failla finished next, defeating her Bruin foe 6-4, 6-3 and while putting Waves up 3-2. Pepperdine dropped one more court, leaving the score even at 3-3 before all eyes turned to court five where the winner would snatch the match for either team. It was Milovanovic who pressed on for the Waves, going into three sets and taking the third- winning the match by scores of 6-3, 2-6 and 6-3.
NEXT UP
The No. 9 Waves return home to continue West Coast Conference action, where they will host Gonzaga and Portland Friday and Saturday. The Bulldogs currently stand 7-8 overall, going 2-2 in WCC play while Portland is 7-7 and 2-2 in the WCC. The Friday match is set to begin at 1:30 p.m. with the Saturday match scheduled for 12 p.m. at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center.
