MATCH RECAP
The Gauchos took control early, taking the first two doubles sets quickly. Adrian Oetzbach and Tim Zeitvogel were putting up a great fight in the no. 1 position when the match was called.
In singles, Corrado Summaria made his first appearance as a Wave, and the freshman from Italy had a solid fight. He dropped the first set, but won the second to force a tiebreak set. Victor Krustev from UCSB eventually took the tiebreak set, 10-2. Zeitvogel also put up a great fight. Though he lost in straight sets, the freshman from Germany did not make the sets easy, as he forced his opponent to win seven games each set.
QUOTABLE
"Today we got whipped up and down the lineup," said head coach Adam Schaechterle. "UCSB competed confidently and played a great match. Our goals are high for the rest of the spring, and we are going to keep pushing. We have to show more confidence in our game style, even if we miss a few shots. We were too quick to abandon our plans because of errors. I know this group is capable."
NEXT UP
The Waves will be back in action on Monday, March 11, when they host Navy at 5:30 PM.
