MATCH RECAP
The Waves came out strong in doubles against a good Pacific doubles core. Sborowitz and Jankowiak made quick work of Josef Southcombe and Nathan Hampton in the #3 position, defeating them 6-1. On court one, Oetzbach and Zeitvogel took a 5-1 lead before Akram El Sallaly and Tadiwa Chinamo crawled back to 5-4. The Waves eventually took the point, and a 1-0 lead into singles play. Rico and Summaria had a 4-3 lead in their match when the doubles point was clinched.

Pepperdine took that momentum into singles play, as the Waves won the first set in four of six matches. Zeitvogel continued his dominance on court five, improving his record to 6-2 in the five slot with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Southcombe. Sboworitz has also been dominant in his position on court four, defeating El Sallaly 6-1, 6-3 to improve his record to 6-3. Two matches looked as though they would finish the match off for the Waves, as both Oetzbach and Summaria had their opponents on the ropes. Oetzbach eventually took point, dominating Ross Watson in the final set 6-0 to clinch the match for the Waves. Summaria led 5-3 and 30-15 in the final game when the match was clinched on one.

HIGHLIGHTS

QUOTABLE
"Pacific is really strong in doubles, and I knew coming into the match that it was going to be important to win that point in doubles," said head coach Adam Schaechterle. "I felt like our guys played probably their most complete doubles match of the year today. It was great to see all three teams in charge of those sets and playing their games the way we want them to play – as the most aggressive team on court."

UP NEXT
The Waves continue WCC play tomorrow, as they host Saint Mary's at Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center at 2 p.m.
