FULLERTON, Calif. –
Wyatt Young of the Pepperdine baseball team hit a grand slam in the fifth inning of Tuesday's 11-4 victory over Cal State Fullerton.
The Waves' (13-8, 4-2 WCC) 7-run margin of victory is the largest over the Titans (11-11) since the 2008 season, when the Waves won 13-2.
BIG WAVES
- Freshman infielder Wyatt Young (Honolulu, Hawaii/Mid Pacific Institute) went 3-for-5 with four RBI from a fifth-inning grand slam.
- Junior infielder Quincy McAfee (Houston, Texas/Westside HS) went 2-for-5 with two RBI, coming from a double in the fourth inning.
- Senior outfielder Matthew Kanfer (Playa Del Rey, Calif./ L.A.C.E.S) also went 2-for-5 with two RBI in the fourth inning.

GAME RECAP
Pepperdine jumped out to an early lead in the first inning, when, after Kanfer hit a single,
Billy Cook doubled him in to give the Waves a 1-0 lead. Fullerton answered back in the bottom half with a run of their own, tying the game at one run apiece after one inning of play.
In the third, Young singled and was moved to second by a McAfee single. On a wild pitch, Young reached third and scored on a throwing error by the catcher, giving the Waves a 2-1 lead after three innings of play.
The Waves really came alive in the fourth, as they loaded the bases thanks to three singles. With the bases loaded, McAfee doubled to left, scoring
Saul Sandoval-Estrada and
Mitchell Dickson. Kanfer then singled up the middle, scoring Young and McAfee, giving the Waves a 6-1 lead after four.
Pepperdine loaded the bases again in the fifth, thanks to a hit by pitch, a single and a walk. With one out, Young stroked a ball into deep right field, sailing over the wall for a grand slam. The grand slam was the Waves' second slam of the year, and Young's second home run of the year, giving the Waves a 10-1 lead after five innings.
Fullerton scored one run in the sixth and two in the seventh to cut the Waves' lead to six runs after seven innings.
The Waves scored their final run in the ninth on a sacrifice fly from
Reese Alexiades to score Cook and secure an 11-4 victory, the Waves' first victory over the Titans since 2011.
