Waves Blank Washington at Home

MALIBU, Calif. – The Pepperdine men's tennis team got its third sweep of the year on Sunday, as they defeated Washington 4-0 at Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center.

MATCH RECAP
In the doubles competition, Washington won the first match, 6-3 on court one. On Court three, Sborowitz and Jankowiak fought back from being down 1-3 to defeating their opponents 7-5. With the doubles point on the line, Summaria and Rico forced a tiebreak on court two. They won the tiebreak 6-2 to secure the doubles point for the Waves.
 
With a 1-0 match lead, the Waves came out hot in singles matches. Rico, Summaria and Sborowitz all won their first sets, giving the Waves the advantage. Rico was the first to finish, defeating Piers Foley handily, 6-4 6-3, giving the Waves the 2-0 match lead. Summaria finished soon after, defeating Jack Davis 7-5, 6-4 to put the Waves within one match win of the overall victory. That match win came on court four, when, after a commanding 6-2 win in the first set, Sborowitz forced a tiebreak. He and Ernesto Turegano battled back and forth in the tiebreak, with Sborowitz coming out on top, 10-8 to secure the sweep for Pepperdine. Oetzbach was tied in the second set 6-6 when the match was clinched. Jankowiak had forced a third set, and was down 2-3 in the third when the match was completed, and Zeitvogel had come back from a 2-6 first set to be tied 6-6 in the second.
 
UP NEXT
The Waves are back in action on the weekend with two West Coast Conference matchups, hosting both Pacific and Saint Mary's on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
