MALIBU, CALIF. – The #5 Pepperdine beach volleyball team came to Zuma Beach ready to play on Wednesday afternoon, quickly opening the day with a sweep over #20 TCU for the Waves Invite, before going on to down #7 Cal Poly 3-2 and pick up another sweep over PCH Cup rival Loyola Marymount.
 
Waves on courts two, three and five went undefeated throughout the Invite, Alexis Filippone, Skylar Caputo and Simone Priebe, Katie Gavin also earned clinches.  
 
The Waves advance their record to 11-4 overall with the wins, while Pepperdine has also gone 48-3 at home all-time for a .941 success rate at Zuma.

MATCH RECAPS
Match 1
The Waves dominated TCU in the first match, collecting first set wins on three courts to set the momentum early on.  The top three courts would finish and clinch, while the bottom two would go to third sets.
 
On court three, Skylar Caputo and Alexis Filippone bested Molly Scheel and Taylor Bradley with a pair of 21-17 set scores to put the Waves on the board.  Gigi Hernandez and Heidi Dyer finished on court two with a 21-11, 22-20 win over Haven Hill and Mandi Orellana to put Pepperdine in a position to clinch. 
 
Brook Bauer and Deahna Kraft would do just that in the No. 1 position, putting down Jaelyn Greene and Victoria McDonald 21-12, 21-17 to clinch the overall.  The Waves showed no let-up on courts four and five, though, and Nikki Lyons and Maddie Dilfer would finish next with a 17-21, 21-15, 15-10 win over Claire Doyla and Jordan Westendorff on four.  On the last court to finish, Simone Priebe and Katie Gavin put down Avery Arellano and Hailey Brockett with a 17-21, 21-11 and 15-10 final mark to complete the sweep.
 
Match 2
In the second match of the day, #7 Cal Poly gave the Waves a run for their money, although the Waves won first sets on four courts.  Caputo and Filippone started the Waves off on three with a 21-19, 21-12 victory over Vanessa Roscoe and Brayden Gruenewald.  Then, Dyer and Hernandez downed Emily Sonny and Macy Gordon with a 21-18, 21-16 mark to give the Waves an opportunity to clinch.
 
The Mustangs would not roll over so easily, however, collecting a three-set win on court four and a two-set win on court one to even the score.
 
With all eyes on court five, Simone Priebe and Katie Gavin entered a third set.  The pair had won the first 21-15, but was felled in the second 21-19.  The duo went ahead early and cruised on to a 15-12 third set win, despite a tough battle against Heather Pembroke and Sjea Anderson in the final moments.
 
Match 3
For Pepperdine's final match of the day, the Waves took on PCH Cup rival Loyola Marymount. The Waves held the advantage with three first set wins to open the dual, while Bauer and Kraft continued towards a second set win with a 21-12, 21-17 final mark on court one.  After falling in the first set 21-19 on court two, Dyer and Hernandez rallied back to win 21-13 and 15-9 and put the Waves up 2-0.
 
All other matches were in third sets as well, but court three would be the one to secure the dual as Caputo and Filippone came back from a 21-14 first set deficit to win the second two 21-17, 15-7. 
 
The winning ways wouldn't stop, although LMU put up a good effort forcing third sets with second set victories.  Priebe and Gavin finished with a 21-9, 18-21 and 15-7 final line to put the home team up four points.  Lyons and Dilfer completed the sweep after posting 21-19, 20-22 and 15-12 set scores for the win.
