WESTWOOD, CALIF. – The #5 Pepperdine beach volleyball team made the short trek to the Sunset Canyon Recreation Courts on top-ranked UCLA's campus to challenge the Bruins on Saturday morning and although the Waves put in a good effort, the opposition was able to win 5-0 and remain undefeated on the season.

It was the first match this season, Pepperdine (11-5) had to play in two-court format with positions two and four playing first, followed by one and three and closed out by five and the exhibition court six.

MATCH RECAPS
The Waves opened the match against the Bruins in two-court format, with the No. 2 and No. 4 pairs kicking off to start. UCLA took the early lead on both courts and worked towards 21-14 and 21-13 first set scores respectively. Court four would finish first as the Bruins downed the Waves with a 21-18 final set to get on the board. On court two, Gigi Hernandez and Heidi Dyer put up a brilliant fight in the second set, reaching a 20-20 tied score before the home team would get the edge and win the set by two to pull ahead 2-0 overall.

In the second flight, courts one and three faced off and UCLA would clinch the overall with a 21-13, 21-18 win on court one. On court four, Alexis Filippone and Skylar Caputo and put in a battle, falling in the first by a 28-26 final mark, before giving the Bruins a run for it in the second, but eventually falling 21-19. In the final flight, UCLA took a two-set win on court five to complete the sweep.

Next, the Waves trek down to Long Beach State on Wednesday, March 20 to take on the 49ers.
