MATCH RECAP
The Waves got off to a hot start, as the pairing of Summaria and Jankowiak won their match 6-3. Rico and Sborowitz quickly followed with a 6-3 match of their own. Zeitvogel and Oetzbach were ahead of their opponents 4-3 when the doubles point was clinched.

Pepperdine kept the momentum rolling in singles, as the team won every single first set. Summaria took the first match win, defeating his opponent 6-1, 6-1 for his first collegiate match win, and giving the Waves a 2-0 lead. Zeitvogel followed closely after with a straight set win of his own, defeating his opponent 6-1, 6-3. Sborowitz clinched the match, with 6-4 and 6-3 set wins over his opponent. The coaches decided before the match to continue to play out every match, so the Waves played on. Rico won his match in dominant fashion, taking sets of 6-3 and 6-2 for his win. Jankowiak won on court six 6-3, 6-2, securing his first match win as a Wave after transferring at the beginning of the year. On court one, Oetzbach cruised to a 6-2 first set win, but had to work to win the second. After going down 1-2 in the second set, Oetzbach fought to even the match at 4-4, then at 5-5 and finally at 6-6 before dominating the tiebreak set, 7-2 to secure the sweep for the Waves.

QUOTABLE
"I think we were looking to see how the guys would respond to a tough match on Friday, and they did exactly what we hoped," said head coach Adam Schaechterle. "They improved not only in how they competed, but I also think that the confidence level that they took the court with was different, and that is what we want to see.

On Summaria: "That was the first of what I hope is a lot of wins as a Wave for Corrado. He is a special competitor, but also a special teammate. I think that he inspires a lot of confidence in the guys, and he expects to take care of business in doubles and singles. He's a really tough and confident tennis player, and our guys feed off of that energy."

On Oetzbach: "There are two things that I thought he did really well tonight. The first is how he served. He served extremely well and consistently throughout the match, and I think that if he does that well, he can beat anyone in the country because he has one of the better serves in college tennis. The second thing that I think he did really well today was his ability to respond to a poor stretch of two or three points. Earlier in the season when that would happen, we would lose him for a bit. But today, when he went through a tough stretch when his serve got broken, he took a deep breath and came out firing."

NEXT UP
The Waves will be back in action on Monday, March 16, when they travel to play TCU at 9 a.m. Pacific time.
