Eight Waves Make WCC All-Academic, With Cook on First Team

MALIBU, California – Eight members of the Pepperdine women's soccer team earned West Coast Conference All-Academic status on Wednesday, led by redshirt sophomore midfielder Madi Cook on the first team.
Cook (Trabuco Canyon, Calif./Tesoro HS), a biology major with a 3.98 grade-point average, had two goals and three assists during the 2019 season.
Seven more Waves earned honorable mention status: junior midfielder Joelle Anderson (San Jose, Calif./Harker School), junior forward Chloe Gaynor (Dana Point, Calif./Dana Hills HS), redshirt sophomore defender Laura Ishikawa (Westlake Village, Calif./Westlake HS), redshirt sophomore defender Erin Sinai (Carlsbad, Calif./Carlsbad HS), sophomore defender Trinity Watson (Ocean Beach, Calif./Point Loma HS), junior forward Brie Welch (Arroyo Grande, Calif./Arroyo Grande HS) and senior midfielder Brooke Zenner (San Jose, Calif./Valley Christian HS).
This is the most players that the Waves have had recognized by the WCC in any single season. Welch earned honorable mention status for the second year in a row, while the remaining seven Waves were recognized for the first time.
To be nominated for All-Academic honors, student-athletes must have a minimum 3.2 cumulative grade-point average, have at least sophomore academic and athletic standing and have appeared in at least half of the season's games.
Pepperdine went 11-6-3 this past season, finishing third in the West Coast Conference while making it to the NCAA Tournament for the 11th time in program history.
