MALIBU, Calif.- All members of the Pepperdine men's tennis team saw action on Thursday in the opening rounds of the 2019 ITA Southwest Regional hosted at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center in Malibu, where four Waves advanced to the round of 16 in the singles main draw.

RECAP
Four Waves saw success in the main draw through the opening rounds of the ITA Southwest Regional, as two doubles teams advanced into the round of 16. The team of Corrado Summaria and Adrian Oetzbach defeated their Cal Poly opponents 8-5, while Enrique Luque Rico and Tim Zeitvogel won over an SDSU team 8-4.

In singles, freshman Robert Shelton opened his home stand with a hard-earned win over Hawaii's Labrunie going 6-1, 7-5 to advance. Pawel Jankowiak pulled the short straw, however, getting paired with PCH rival Moreno of LMU where he dipped 3-6, 4-6. Jankowiak will live to see another day, as the consolation draw begins tomorrow after the main draw rounds finish. Freshman Evan Shamlian will join Jankowiak after faltering in his first round match, going 2-6, 5-7 against UCI's Sah.

Five other Waves gained byes in their first round of singles play as Tim Zeitvogel, Corrado Summaria, Enrique Luque Rico and Adrian Oetzbach saw wins in the second round over the likes of players from LMU, SDSU and Cal Poly.

Tomorrow will begin with doubles play at 9am as both winning Waves teams compete with the main draw round of 16 and quarterfinals to follow. Those matches will in turn be flanked by the first two rounds of consolation play, where Jankowiak and will feature.
