
Waves Sweep Day 1 at Bruno Classic

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The No. 8 Pepperdine men's water polo team swept through its first day of competition at the Bruno Classic, hosted by Brown and Harvard on Saturday. Chris Dilworth had five goals on the day.
The Waves (2-0) defeated No. 19 St. Francis Brooklyn (0-1) 11-6 and No. 11 Harvard (1-1) 9-6. Along with Dilworth's (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Thousand Oaks HS) five goals, Mate Toth(Balatonalmadi, Hungary/Szilagyi Erzsebet Boarding School) and Sean Ferrari (Redwood City, Calif./St. Francis HS) each had multi-goal days.

The Waves started off the season extremely hot, getting goals from Dilworth and George Mooney (Whittier, Calif./La Serna HS) to give the Waves a quick 2-0 lead. The Terriers got a single goal in the first to send the game to the second quarter 2-1 in favor of the Waves.
The second quarter went in favor of St. Francis, as two quick goals gave them a 3-2 lead before Toth equalized with 3 minutes left in the half. The Terriers got another goal right before halftime to give them a 4-3 lead before Ferrari scored his first collegiate goal to tie the game going into the half.
After half, the Waves scored two quick goals from Dilworth and Curtis Jarvis (Huntington Beach, Calif./Huntington Beach HS) to retake the lead after a goal from St. Francis, a lead they would never relinquish. Ian Holder (Yorba Linda, Calif./Beckman HS) scored just before the third quarter ended to give the Waves an 8-6 lead going into the final period of play.
In the fourth, it was all Waves, as the stout defense didn't allow a goal. The Waves scored three more goals, one each from Sam Paur (Poway, Calif./Poway HS), Ferrari and Toth TO give the Waves the 11-6 victory.

In the Waves' second game of the day, they started off much the same as in the first. Paur and Ferrari each scored a goal early, giving the Waves a 2-0 lead. Harvard scored a single goal in the first quarter, and the Waves lead 2-1 after one.
In the second quarter, the Waves scored a single goal thanks to a five-meter penalty conversion from Toth. Harvard scored three times, taking a 4-3 lead into halftime.
The Waves came charging after halftime, getting two quick goals from Ferrari and Mooney to take the lead 5-4. After Harvard equalized, Dilworth gave the Waves the lead back with a goal late in the third to give the Waves a 6-5 lead going to the final period.
Defense late in the game was once again the difference maker as the Waves only allowed one goal to the Crimson. Dilworth completed his hat trick in strong fashion with defenders all around him. Paur scored his final goal of the day in between Dilworth's second and third goal, completing the victory in 9-6 fashion.
