
Men's Water Polo Splits Final Day at Bruno Classic

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – In the final day of the Bruno Classic, the No. 8 Pepperdine men's water polo team defeated No. 20 Bucknell 12-11, and fell to the host, 15th-ranked Brown, 11-12 in double-overtime. Freshman Sean Ferrari had four goals against Brown and Chris Dilworth had his second hat trick of the year against Bucknell.
The Waves (3-1) took the host Bears (2-2) to double overtime before falling and controlled most of the game against the Bison (3-1).

In the Waves' second game of the day, the team came out firing, scoring two goals in the first two minutes. After a Bucknell goal, George Mooney (Whittier, Calif./La Serna HS) converted a five-meter penalty to give the Waves a 3-1 lead. Bucknell then scored three unanswered goals to take a 4-3 lead after one period of play.
The Waves took control back in the second quarter after Mate Toth (Balatonalmadi, Hungary/Szilagyi Erzsebet Boarding School) tied the game and Dilworth (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Thousand Oaks HS) gave the Waves a 6-4 lead at the half.
After another goal from Dilworth to start the third quarter, Curtis Jarvis (Huntington Beach, Calif./Huntington Beach HS) scored four straight goals, giving the Waves a 11-7 lead going into the third quarter.
Dilworth scored the final goal of the game for the Waves in the fourth quarter. Bucknell tried to mount a comeback, scoring four unanswered goals, but ran out of time as the Waves exited the pool with a 12-11 victory.

Brown jumped out to a 3-0 lead before Dilworth scored the first of his three goals in the game. It was the only goal the Waves scored in the first quarter, with Brown taking a 3-1 lead after one.
Sean Ferrari (Redwood City, Calif./St. Francis HS) scored two of his four goals in the second quarter, helping the Waves cut the lead. The Bears led 5-2 at the half.
The Waves defense held Brown to just a single goal in the third quarter, while Jarvis and Ferrari each scored a goal to cut the Bears' lead to 6-5 heading into the final period of play.
Brian Barez (Torrance, Calif./Palos Verdes HS) tied the game at 6 just a minute in to the fourth quarter. After two penalty conversions, Brown retook the lead at 8-6 before goals from Dilworth and Jarvis retied the game at eight. Jarvis tied the game yet again after Brown scored to send the game into overtime, tied at nine.
In the first overtime period, both the Bears and the Waves scored, with Dilworth putting the ball past the Bears' keeper. Ian Holder (Yorba Linda, Calif./Beckman HS) tied the game back at 11 after Brown scored in the second overtime period, and it looked as though the game would go to a third, but the Bears scored with just one second remaining to give the Waves their first lost of the season.
