
Kanfer Named to WCC All-Academic First Team

MALIBU, Calif. - Matthew Kanfer of the West Coast Conference regular-season champion Pepperdine baseball team was named to the WCC All-Academic first team, the conference office announced. Kiko Garcia, Christian Stoutland, Aharon Modlin and Michael Mahony were all named honorable mentions.
At the conclusion of each athletic season, the WCC selects an all-academic squad for each WCC-sponsored sport. To be considered, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, while also being a significant contributor to his team.
Kanfer (Playa del Ray, Calif./L.A.C.E.S.) is majoring in media production, and finished the year with a 3.41 cumulative GPA, one of the highest on the team. The junior was also named to the All-WCC First Team, after having a career year, hitting .315, good for second on the team. His 35 RBI and seven home runs were also good for second on the team.
Garcia (Chula Vista, Calif./St. Augustine HS) is in the process of completing a masters in business administration, and has a 3.69 GPA in the program. Garcia had a 4.03 ERA in his senior year, striking out 22 batters, and allowing only a .279 batting average against.
Stoutland (Calabasas, Calif./Oaks Christian HS) completed a masters in business administration, and graduated in April 2018. His final cumulative GPA was 3.77. this year, Stoutland went 4-4 in 15 starts, and had a 4.35 ERA. His 50 strikeouts were good for second on the team, as were his 70.1 innings pitched.
Modlin (Irvine, Calif./Woodbridge HS) is majoring in economics, and has a cumulative GPA of 3.44 in his two years at Pepperdine. He finished the year with a .214 batting average, and had 28 hits on the year.
Mahony (Huntington Beach, Calif./Edison HS) finished the year with a cumulative 3.36 GPA while majoring in business administration. He was one of the most productive arms out of the bullpen for the Waves, finishing with a 1.69 ERA, second on the team. He also had 36 strikeouts in only 21.1 innings pitched.
Pepperdine was the runner-up in the WCC Conference Tournament in 2018.
