
Waves Sweep Top WCC Beach Volleyball Honors

WCC Release MALIBU, Calif. " The No. 2 Pepperdine beach volleyball team swept the West Coast Conference top postseason honors this season, as announced the league office on Wednesday. Along with head coach Nina Matthies garnering her third-straight WCC Coach of the Year award, Corinne Quiggle, Deahna Kraft and Brook Bauer all earned West Coast Conference Player, Defender and Freshman of the Year accolades, respectively.
In addition to the top honors, the Waves placed five to the All-WCC first team, one to the second team and two to the WCC All-Freshman squad. Quiggle, Kraft, Bauer, Madalyn Roh and Heidi Dyer tabbed first team acclaim, while Gigi Hernandez earned a second team nod and Bauer and Alexis Filippone received WCC All-Freshman honors.
Quiggle (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla./Ponte Vedra HS) and Kraft (Seattle, Wash./Garfield HS) have played together all season at either the No. 1 or No. 2 positions, earning the duo West Coast Conference Player of the Year and Defender of the Year respectively. The pair has posted a 22-5 overall record with an 8-4 mark in the top-spot and a 14-1 record in the No. 2-spot. They have posted a 46-18 record by sets and have currently won five-consecutive matches, including three to propel the Waves to the team's third-straight WCC title. Throughout the season, the pair had one 14-match winning streak as well and the pair has clinched eight matches for the Waves.
This is both Quiggle's and Kraft's first top honor, while Quiggle is a two-time All-WCC first teamer and Kraft also picked up WCC All-Freshman team honors last season. Quiggle was also a VolleyballMag All-American in 2017.
Roh (Scottsdale, Ariz./Chaparral HS) and Bauer (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas HS) have also been a solid component to the top of the lineup, playing in the No. 1 and 2 positions as well to earn All-WCC first team acclaim as well as All-Freshmen Team honors for Bauer. The duo has collected a 20-7 overall record this season, with an 11-1 record in their current No. 2-slot and a 9-6 record in the top-position. They have gone 44-17 in sets played, while clinching seven matches for their team this season. The pair are currently on a nine-match winning streak, all of which were won in straight sets.
This is Bauer's first postseason honor, while Roh was an AVCA and VolleyballMag All-American in 2017 and has garnered All-WCC first team honors for two-straight seasons.
Dyer (San Clemente, Calif./Saddleback Valley Christian HS) and Hernandez (Dana Point, Calif./JSerra Catholic HS) earned first team and second team honors respectively. The pair has produced a 20-7 overall record when playing in the No. 3 position. They have also amassed a 45-18 record by sets and are working with a current five-match winning streak.
Dyer was an AVCA and DiG Magazine All-American in 2016 and she is now a two-time All-WCC honoree with the first team nod this season and a second team honor in 2017. This is Hernandez' first postseason honor.
Along with Bauer, Filippone (Del Mar, Calif./Torrey Pines HS) also tabbed an All-Freshman Team accolade this season after amassing the Waves' best record this season thus far alongside partner Skylar Caputo (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Mira Costa HS). The duo has gone 25-2 this season in the No. 4 position with an impressive 51-12 record by sets. They went on an 18-match winning streak to open the season and are currently working with four-straight wins. The duo has clinched four matches for the Waves and have won 17 in just two sets. This is Filippone's first honor, while Caputo was an All-WCC second team honoree in both 2016 and 2017 and a WCC All-Freshmen Team member in 2016.
