
#4 Waves Sweep Stanford on Senior Night

MALIBU, Calif. -- Senior night was a special occasion in Firestone Fieldhouse on Saturday night, as the No. 4 Pepperdine men's volleyball team swept past Stanford with 25-21, 25-17 and 25-21 set scores in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match presented by Farmers Insurance -- Rene Williams.
The Waves (15-7, 8-4 MPSF) led the match in all areas over the Cardinal (6-19, 3-9 MPSF), including a commanding .500 success rate on the attack front compared to the oppositions .269 output.

The Waves were fueled by the momentum of the first set win and on top of a .524 hitting percentage in the second set alone, shot out to a 6-1 lead. Pepperdine continued to put balls down on the floor en route to 13-7 and 18-13 leads late in the action. In the final moments, a block effort from Harthaller, Harriman and Wexter gave the home team the edge and a final smash from Harthaller put the Waves ahead 2-0 with the 25-17 set win.
In the third and final set, Stanford gained the early lead with a 5-2 advantage. The Waves countered to tie the set at 8-8 and each side continued to move forward point-by-point. After a 17-17 tie, Pepperdine brought out the big guns and kills from Harriman and Wieczorek and an ace from Wieczorek earned the home team the match-point opportunity. A final pair of kills from seniors Harthaller and Harriman finished the match off with a 25-21 set win.
